PUERTO MALDONADO 5 Days Tour

WELCOME

Upon arrival at our facilities, our team of collaborators will welcome you with a delicious refreshment made with fruits of our region, then proceed to our bungalow to leave your belongings and get ready for lunch.

BOTANICAL WALK

After lunch we will have a short rest.

We will hike for about 1:30 hours where we can see a variety of trees, plants, we can taste wild fruits throughout the hike, we will also observe wild animals in our forest, such as monkeys, birds, squirrels, and snakes.

We will have the opportunity to see a specimen of chestnut tree one of the main and best trees of this Amazon rainforest as this specimen can only be found in Peru in this area of Madre de Dios.

The collection of this nut is one of the main activities and flag of this region, because with it you can make endless edible products and even beauty products.

BOAT RIDE AND ALLIGATOR SEARCH

After our first encounter with the Amazon rainforest; we will go to embark on a handmade boat where we will take a ride on the waters of the Tambopata River, where we will have the opportunity to see birds, parrots, herons over the sky. We will go slowly in order to see some species that live around the rivers.

We will wait for the sunset on the Tambopata River, which will allow us to see a great sunset, arguably one of the best in the world, as the combination of the sky with the shadow of the giant trees and the mirror of the river water make it really spectacular.

At dusk we will search for caimans on the banks of the Tambopata River, we will have the privilege to see the different types of this species that houses this river. 

We will also have the opportunity, if we are lucky enough to find a family of Capybaras (the largest and heaviest living rodent in the world), this species usually moves in large groups, they are very passive and calm animals which will allow us to take some incredible pictures.

DINNER

Then after an afternoon full of good adventures, we will taste a delicious dinner made by our expert cook who will be delighted with the flavors made with inputs from the region, cultivated in our lands.

At daybreak, we will pack our backpacks and head to one of the most beautiful spots in the Tambopata Reserve: Lake Sandoval—a body of water just over 3 kilometers long, renowned for the rich biodiversity it harbors..

TAMBOPATA NATIONAL RESERVE (SANDOVAL LAKE)

We will board a traditional boat to head toward the Tambopata Reserve. We will travel along the Tambopata River for approximately one hour, during which time we will have the opportunity to observe various bird species.

We will also be able to see the confluence of the region’s two main rivers: the Tambopata River and the Madre de Dios River.

Upon arriving at our destination—the entrance to the Tambopata Reserve—we will begin a hike lasting about 40 minutes. Along the way, we will encounter giant trees, medicinal plants, monkeys, birds, insects, rodents, and reptiles.

This reserve is one of the most significant in Peru, home to over 1,000 recorded bird species.

Once we reach the lake, we will board a rustic rowboat. Our guide will take us across the lake, where we may spot macaws, herons, yellow-spotted river turtles (*taricayas*), black caimans, anacondas, and the largest otter species in the Amazon (known locally as the “river wolf”). Some of these species are currently endangered. Afterward, we will take a break to enjoy our breakfast.

After exploring Lake Sandoval in search of wildlife, we will head back along the entrance trail. With a bit of luck, we may spot more wild animals, such as families of howler monkeys or other mammals. We will also learn about the trees and plants preserved within this National Reserve. Exploring this primary forest—a key feature of the Tambopata National Reserve—will be a unique and authentic experience.

NIGHT WALK

At nightfall we will prepare the flashlights to start the tour in our forest, looking for animals, insects and birds, we can find night monkeys, frogs, large tarantulas, rodents, spiders, owls, owls, owls, fireflies, snakes or vipers.

We can also appreciate certain nocturnal plants that have a peculiar characteristic, you will be amazed with this nocturnal experience that is lived in the Amazon rainforest.

DINNER

We will enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by our expert cook.

PARROTS LICK AND VIEW OF DAWN

We will get up very early, we will prepare everything to be able to appreciate a festival (show) of different types of parrots that inhabit this Amazon region, we will embark and leave by land or river approximately 1 hour from our lodge.

This experience will be unique and unforgettable. We will appreciate the sunrise and be able to hear the noise of insects and the songs of the birds of the Amazon.

For bird lovers it is a great festival since they can only be seen in the Amazon.

When we arrive we will be able to observe a large number of parrots gathered as every morning on the clay wall, ready to continue their diet, these minerals that the parrots eat contain useful substances for their diet and detoxification.

It is recommended to keep a safe distance in order not to frighten or make the parrots feel threatened.

BREAKFAST

We will enjoy a good continental breakfast, then we will give the indications of the activities to be carried out during the rest of the morning.

TREK

After breakfast, we will take a short break.

We will then embark on a final hike, lasting approximately an hour and a half. Along the trail in our conservation forest, we will encounter trees of great significance to the Amazon rainforest and, with some luck, may spot various animals and insects—such as monkeys, birds, or perhaps a reptile camouflaged among the plants and trees..

LUNCH

We will return to our lodge for lunch.

KAYAK OR INFLATABLE BOATS

We will navigate upstream on the Tambopata River, and then paddle down in the kayaks for about an hour, enjoying the natural environment accompanied by the sounds of insects and birdsong that fly over the Tambopata River. The guide and the staff on board will provide instructions on the use and handling of the kayak so you can enjoy the nature that will accompany us on this great tour.

BONFIRE TALES AND LEGENDS

You will be able to share a moment around the campfire with your guide, where you can recount personal experiences, tales, and the mysteries held by the Amazon rainforest.

DINNER

We will enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by our expert cook.

 BREAKFAST

We will enjoy a good continental breakfast, then we will give the indications of the activities to be carried out during the rest of the morning.

SEARCH FOR SLOTHS

We will board our boat for one final encounter with the Amazon rainforest—this time, in search of sloths. Since Tambopata is our home, we know a spot where there is a high probability of spotting them; we recommend bringing your cameras and video recorders to capture every move the sloths make.

LUNCH

We will return to our lodge for lunch.

YACUMAMA LAKE

After a short rest we will leave by land, for about 50 minutes, and arrive at one of the newly discovered lakes named YACUMAMA.

We will enter in a rustic rowing boat to the natural attraction, as this lake is surrounded by lush aguaje palm trees, which grow in the lake and these in turn are shelters for thousands of birds and especially parrots, we can also fish piranhas (the most aggressive carnivorous fish in the world), we can see during the tour small and medium caimans.

In addition to the great diversity of fauna of this lake, it has something that makes it special and different from others; that is the sunset, watching the sunset on this lake will be a memory for a lifetime.

Watching how the birds arrive to their nests at dusk is a unique contemplation in this Amazon jungle, we will stay until the beginning of dusk and if we are lucky we will be able to see anacondas, since these palm trees submerged in water are their natural habitat.

We will return the same way we went until we reach our lodge.

DINNER

We will enjoy our last dinner in the middle of the trees, after which we will be able to enjoy a drink at the bar on a voluntary basis.

BREAKFAST

VISIT TO THE LOCAL CHACRA

We will visit a local farm where we can see various fruits that grow in the Amazon rainforest; not only will we observe them, but we will also have the chance to taste some of them.

This farm is entirely organic, so prepare your palate to sample what the Amazon has to offer; we are also likely to spot some birds or mammals feeding on these local fruits.

RETURN TO THE CITY AND END OF THE TOUR

Approximately 10:30 am it will be time to pack our bags and sadly say goodbye to the biodiversity of Peru and then head to the city, where we will drop you off at the airport or bus station.

*We recommend bringing mosquito repellent, flashlight, binoculars, personal  items, sun block, walking shoes, long shirts and pants.l

*We recommend arriving in Puerto Maldonado before 1:00 PM. If you arrive after this time, you will miss lunch on the first day, with no option for a refund or compensation.
